Our
Mission
Why are we doing this?
Drunk driving strips thousands of families across the world of their loved ones every year. The shocking part? These accidents are 100% preventable. Our team noticed this problem in our local community first, and then witnessed the scale at which drunk driving accidents happen in the United States. We are working timelessly on this product not for money, but to save lives.
the start of our journey
In early 2023, we took initiative as freshmen to conduct primary market research through an online survey that received over 800 responses. We shared it with local schools, organizations, and parents, and were deeply impacted by the insights.
Over 40% of respondents knew someone affected by a drunk driving crash, highlighting the importance of our mission. More than 80% said they would consider installing a breathalyzer in their child’s car to promote safe driving. Additionally, 175 respondents offered valuable ideas for our app and product.
Our team has spent months analyzing this feedback to shape our innovation, and we continue to adapt to meet consumer needs.
What we did after
After gathering market research, we wanted to connect with our target audience on a personal level. At Southpoint Mall in Durham, NC, we conducted brief interviews to gain deeper insights. These interviews brought fresh perspectives and led to exciting connections, including a State Farm agent who helped us design an insurance-based rewards system and a private investor interested in our product.
Following research, we moved to development. With guidance from mentors at UNC Chapel Hill, NC State, and industry experts, we created low-fidelity prototypes to test our concept, then developed high-fidelity versions for practical use.
next steps
Currently, we are constantly iterating our product to become more accurate and are working on our state-of-the-art retinal eye scanner to make our device secure and convenient.
We have also been working on the application for the device, constantly adding new features to make the user's experience as smooth as possible. We recently submitted this app to the Congressional App Challenge, where we got 2nd place in NC's 2nd district out of over 30 apps.
